Wings'n'things

Post by nebogipfel »

I'm not sure if this post will survive or if it will invoke the wrath of the moderators but I have thought about it for a few days and decided;

a. I would like to know if others have had problems?

b. possibly be of help to other owners facing the decision

A while back I posted asking about repair panels and within it asked if Heritage wings were worth paying roughly double. I didn't get a reply so in the end being the cheapskate I am, I opted for the cheaper wings.

The wings are pattern panels bought from my local trade supplier but widely available. Now being trade I have some experience of the variable quality of pattern wings but have generally found that I can fit them without too many problems.

I am dismayed to discover that the N/S wing is acceptable but the O/S (and a second one sent in the hope of improvement) is dimentionally different by about an inch both to my old wing and to the pattern N/S wing! .......... The flange which bolts to the inner wing is narrow by about one inch at the bottom (i.e. from the edge of the flange to the face of the wing is roughly 3 inches on the N/S wing and 4 Inches on the O/S wing.

Clearly I can, and will, fit the wing, but it will require welded modification to the mounting flange.

In fairness, I should point out that the wings are described as "economy" in the catalogue but I took that to mean they might be a bit lightweight and rough around the edges, not differ from one side to the other! :(

Now I may just have encountered an iffy batch but I thought it was worth posting
