Leaking Windscreen

67 traveller lives outside at the moment. When parked up, and in driving rain, the water collects in the two bottom corners of the windscreen and leaks through into the cabin. I have had a new windscreen seal fitted, but it still leaks. Is this just something I have to accept, or is there a cure?

thanks

If left it will eventually rot your floor out! Get to your local motor factors and ask for some windscreen sealant, it comes in a tube like bathroom mastic. Just make sure it's the flexible non-setting type of sealant though. If your happy popping the screen back out seal round the glass to, otherwise get the sealant as deep under the rubber as you can.

Should I use the sealant just on the outside, or both outside and in?

I removed the chrome strip and injected it from outside. You might find pinching the end of the nozzle flat will help it slide under the rubber easier.

Well it should collect in the corner but not leak through, is it definatly leaking past the rubber, can you see a water trail ?
2 other places that are notorious for water leaks are the bonnet hinge to body rubbers (sometimes tightening up can solve this one) and the best one is the wiper spindles, if the rubber has gone on these the leak will drip onto wiring or whatever is convienient the run a little way drip onto something else and so on finally dripping onto the floor in a different position to the actual leak.
If it is a recent windscreen rubber that is leaking complain and get them to fix it properly thats what you paid them for.

Mine definitely leaks between the glass and the rubber. The rubber is old but not cracked, it's just that where the water pools (terrible design) the rubber is a little perished on the surface.

I'll investigate some of that non-setting sealant.

Joe's screen leaks too. On one side between the glass and rubber. on the other between the rubber and body. It was fitted by the pro's and the fit was dreadful with a huge gap around the top. I believe it was down to the quality of the rubber as it is very hard, waxy and un-elastic.

The plastic/chrome filler strip is the thing that 'pushes' the rubber into the corners and if cut too short lets the rubber 'shrink' back. I've noticed that minor screen rubbers on the top corners can curve in on the radiused part of the screen apeture rather than on a flatter part, thus giving less of a seal against water, the only cure I've found is by way of this filler strip.

I've nearly cured the leaks in the Travellers winscreen (sealant), still a slight dribble in very heavy rain- as Lee said the best way to inject the sealant is after removing the chrome strip.

Untill then I won't have carpets in the car as its easier to dry the water.
