Horn not working.

Here's hoping there's a budding auto electrician on here.
My horn packed up months ago.Turned out a terminal had dropped off. Removed horn and soldered terminal back on, while I had it off I took it in bits to check inside was ok and not all rusty[ only time it gets used is at mot]
Tried it with diaphragm just sat in top piece to check for contacts. It worked, didn't sound right, but it all needed tightening up. When I tightened it up it stopped working. Took it in bits again, worked. Tightened it up, stopped working. Have done this a few times, with same results.
Anyone got any ideas???

I think I had the same problem. There is an adjuster screw that lets you tune the horns tone. When I fiddled with that it worked.

How are you testing it? It needs a lot of current - about 10 amps to work so you'll need to test it on the battery. I'm sorry if thats obvious, but I tried to test mine on the charger and wondered why it didn't work!!

Well I messed about with that to free it off. Which way do you turn it to make horn work?

tighten it up 'till it squeaks and then loosen it off 'till it honks.
I think. :P

Will try that tomorrow. What does the big screw in the centre do?

If you can't sort it out, there are stickers available:

Horn not working, watch for finger.

Thanks Roger. The little screw did the trick.
Scott, I dont think the MOT tester would see the funny side of that :)
