After reading all the nightmare stories concerning rehanging doors is this the best (easiest way.

I have to weld in today a new hinge post and drill out the hinges for an oversize pin so basically its all in bits at the moment.

I intend to drill out the hinges and loose fit them before welding in the new post, then position the door and drift in the new hinge pins. Hopefully I can then joggle the hinges about to make the door fit, or is there a better way?

The question is ...is the door a good fit in the CLOSED position on
the old pillar?? (in the closed position the latches on the B pillar
should be holding the door in the correct position so that play
in the hinges does not really come in to it until you open the door)
I welded in my new Hinge pillar making sure that the holes and
other datum points were exactly where the old ones were. I did
the oversized pins only after refitting everything and confirming
that I could get as good a fit as on the original pillar because I
though it was tricky enough to replace the Hinge pillar accurately
without introducing another variable at the same time?

Unfortunatley no, the striking plate on the door was worn through, and every bump forced the door to open onto the second latch.

Anyway did not proceed as well as first thought this morning, the holding plate behind the door post would not give up the screws and it had to be ground off. the screws themselves are rusted to the plate. Broke two easy outs trying to retrieve them, will have to fabricate new ones.

Oh dear, nothing ever goes as smoothly as you expect does it?
After all that trouble you are not likely to forget but, do not
forget to fit the hinge threaded plates in position before you
weld the new pillar on!! Many people have done just that!
