SEMAPHORE WIRE AND BULB

ive started to look at the traffic indicators on the moggy and found they have stuck closed...so far got one unstuck and its moving if i put power to it but not getting a light......does the wire heat up to produce the light when is fully up and its touching the contact point on the side, or does the wires fail after a while etc ? any ideas how

ive been browsing the net to find pictures of them and i noticed that im missing the main part..................the bulb
i also notice it dosnt return its self,is there surpose to be a switch connected to them has well for the return ? ....has any one got a picture how the bulb sits in the unit...thanks

As far as I know the trafficators have only got one wire to turn the power on, which makes them swing out. As soon as the power is turned off, it should return.
they take a festoon bulb, which is put at the end of the orange bit, with the end touching the metal strip holding the actual plastic in.
I will try and make some pictures if this is not all clear enough

they dont seem to return..but i dont have the cover or the metal strip on would of the weight of those parts make it drop? if you could take a picture would be some help thanks

Yes. The trafficator doesn't work with out the metal strip.
they take a 3W festoon bulb (Lucas No. 256 12V 3W)

sussed it all now..got the new plastic cover and bulb which makes it easy to relise how it all sits together...still not returning very well..might have to stick some extra weight inside it to get it to go down after....unfort cant strip them completly has they have got pressed pins which i cant replace with new ones if i striped it completly

Don't put weights on them. Otherwise they won't come up
Really depends on the weather wether they come up or not

Make sure that the metal bar that goes down inside the electrical coil to make a 'solenoid' is free to slide - WD40 will usually help here.
You should NOT be able to just lift the arm out - there is an interlock that is released when the power is applied to make it work. The interlock prevents the arm jiggling about when it is supposed to be down. You should be able to see it and release it manually, but be careful!
One wire only. When power is applied the arm comes up and towards the top of the movement there is a switch that makes contact and illuminates the bulb (if fitted and working!)
