Will electric pump pump through manual washer pump?
I have an electric windscreen washer pump kit to fit to my Traveller, but I'd like to retain the old manual pump for old time's sake.
Does anyone know whether the electric pump will pump through the old manual pump if I connect it in series with the exiting tubing?
I don't want to get into complicated double jets, or non-return valves in the tubing if I can avoid it.

I'm pretty sure it'll work.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Would it be easier to get one of the press button switches that look similar to the one on the original manual pump for originality sake, and just hang onto the old part, as you are going to have to fit another switch somewhere else to operate the new pump.
Cheers

I think I have the switch problem covered. Holden Classics sell a look-alike switch that does single-speed wipers with a third position that works the washers and wipers, so the switch looks the same as the old one, but does more. (I have to ask Santa nicely, as it is £35
.
However, since I posted the question, I think I've hit a bigger problem in that the electric pump might pump through the manual one all right, but the manual pump won't suck through the electric one.
There doesn't seem to be any way of getting a flow through it unless it is running.
At the moment, I've devised a scheme with extra tubing and non-return valves that will let both pumps feed the existing jets. More complicated than I'd intended, but maybe more effective, as there won't be much to impede the flow.
Onwards and upwards!

it will be very easy to get the manual pump to work (although why you would want 2 pumps is beyond me).
All you need is a low pressure non return valve (the sort you use in the feed of a washer pump) and connect that in parrallel to the electric pump. You could then dispense with the one way valve on the pick up pipe (i'm guessing that the electric pump has its own one way valve)

On the subject of pumps I dont have a pump on my 61. Didn't it have washers as standard?
It has a period mod electric pump and little push button under the dash, but no sign of a manual pump of hole for it. Perhaps the original was floor mounted??

It much easier to just buy the correct type of elctric switch as I suggestedWhy not source a source manual washer, undo the rear plastic crimped on assembly and modifiy so that the button now pushed an electric switch ?
I know holdens do one but its £16 + Vat
another alternative
