Just jacking up the car to check the brakes. While the back was jacked up I noticed that 1 on the clamps that wraps around the leafs to keep them togther is rusted/broken.

I dont really want to replace the leaf springs. Can these small clamps be replaced.?

Will they be Ok to put through for a MOT as they are?

Many Thanks
Andy

Do you mean the U-bolts? If so these need to be replaced for an MOT, or just road use! You should be able to change it in situ.

Nope, the bands that are wrapped around the springs themselves. They are replaceable, but AFAIK only by ones from another spring (which I've done) or fabricating replacements (which I haven't). No idea over the MOT though - I'd have thought they'd be a fail if they weren't there.

These tend to fall off / rust off as the springs get old. I've never had an MOT fail from rear springs on any of the cars I've had, despite some of them being in a dreadfull state.

Did the springs start off with bands at all junctions? - I've never seen a car with a full set.

Usually 2 at the front of the spring (in front of the centre point), and 1 at the rear - or other way round if someone has fitted them that way.
