leaking fuel

i had fuel leaking out of the end of my fuel pipe where it joins the carb float chamber no matter how much i tightened the clip.
i changed the float assembly with a spare but i'm wondering what caused the problem as the cut off pin seems to be going in and out ok?
is it possible to renew the pin assembly?

I'd replace the pipe if I were you, it might be starting to come apart and you don't want petrol leaking out into the engine bay as you're driving along.

yes, i've got one ordered up but the prob is in the float chamber, the pin must have stuck down or the float would have sealed the valve.

If you're sure the problem is that the float chamber is overflowing, first try cleaning the needle and seat in case a bit of grit or something is holding the two apart. If that doesn't fix it, it is possible to get replacement valves either as part of a carb repair kit or on their own. See for example http://morrisminorspares.co.uk/shop/pro ... cts_id=905

It's also worth checking the hinge is still working OK and no petrol has got inside the float itself.

the hinge is nice and loose and the float is dry - i think i'll order up a pin as you suggest, thanx alex.
