Just what you don't want to hear at WOF (6 monthly NZ MOT type check) time. An invite into the pit at the testing station to look at your front chassis rails.
Took the car to the repairer, who used to race Morris Minors, to get an idea on what it will take to repair. Thank goodness for replacement rails being available. One phone call to Basis NZ and 2 new rails are on their way. It will be interesting to see what is inside the originals.
A question; what is the best way to treat the inside of the new rails to slow future corrosion?

Either Waxoyl or Dinitrol 3125. The Waxoyl is a lot cheaper but the Dinitrol is apparently better at soaking into metal that's already a bit rusty (which hopefully won't be the case with your replacement rails but will be with the rest of the vehicle). Make sure there are enough drain holes on the bottoms of the new rails - water will get in, and if it can't run out it'll rust its way out. It would probably be a good idea to rustproof the rest of the vehicle too if you don't want to be invited into the pit to look at your sills or some other part of the underside six months from now.

To add a little more to the story; at the previous check the examiner (different person, same place) had a really good look at the frame. I was prepaired for the worst when he came up and said " about your frame... " He carried on to say it had been repaired but had been done well and was not something to worry about.
There is a bright side to this, it was a job that was on the to do list. I had hoped just not quite now. I have had my doubts about the previous repairs and what is under them. Having different cambers on the front wheels was a wee bit concerning. Something was not right. It will be good to have fixed.
