I am replacing the scuttle panels on our 65 convertible. The old ones that I removed were held in by two screws with cups on the door side of the panel but they don't look like they are originals. What is the correct fixing please? Also the new panels have a selvedge of about 2" where does that go please? Advice welcome,many thanks, John

The front and bottom edges of the panel are tucked in to the pile at the edge of the carpet. The top edge wedges under the dashboard. The centre of the panel is pushed against the side of the car by the parcel shelf - the retaining screws for the metal edge of the shelf pass through the scuttle panel itself. There should be extra material to the rear of the board used to make the scuttle panel. This material is trimmed and fitted round the edge of the door frame and held in place by glue and the small metal clips that are used to retain the draught excluder around the door frame. The material therefore goes under the draught excluder but should not be visible on the outer edge of the frame. Hope that all makes sense. You'll also need to trim the overhanging material to fit round the lip under the edge of the dashboard. Over the years the material under the draught exlcuder becomes brittle and breaks away, hence the screws that you found. Also if the parcel shelf has been removed then people fit cups under the bolts that go into the frame to (a) hold the scuttle panel and (b) cover the hole.
