Windscreen rubber UK

Hi

Can anyone recommend a company to replace my windscreen rubber please? I have the [hopefully the right one] rubber and have ordered a new centre pillar with gasket.

Would love to do it myself but need another pair of hands.

Autoglass quote £47 but say if the glass gets broken I will have to pay for it/them [split screen].

I've spoken to a couple of local companies but they are not keen to do it.

That's not a bad price, and you have comeback if you get a leak. Glass isn't too expensive if it gets broken (shouldn't happen), plus they'll have to clean up the mess.

Very good price, but make sure they will NOT use sealant unless absolutely necessary.

I had mine replaced for about £90, and it leaks like.. well Wales on a rainy day!

Maybe you'd be better off sealing it yourself.
Where's it leaking - bottom corners or centre pillar ?

Both, and inside the dash. It is sealed to oblivion.

In the corners, is it coming from between the rubber & body or from between the rubber & glass ?
Rubber & body is the most common.

If rubber & body, then see if you can ease the rubber up on the outside of the car & (using an air gun) blow out the water that will be sitting there.
Once it's nice & dry, get the proper windscreen sealant (non setting sealant) in a cartridge that suits a caulking gun. The guns are cheap here so I'd imagine they would be in the UK too.
Ease the tip behind the seal & squirt in the sealant all the way from one bottom corner, up the side, across the top & down the other side finishing at the other bottom corner.
Make sure you get it nice & even with no breaks in the sealant. Too much is better than too little.

For the centre strip, it's best to remove the outside pillar to seal it properly. The glass won't move if it's been fitted for a while (well, it shouldn't do) & you can refit the pillar without too much trouble.

The inside the dash leak can't be the windscreen.
Check & seal your bonnet hinges & wiper grommets to start with to make sure they're OK.

MMMMMMMMMMM,sounds like a fair deal to me.I have tried a couple of times to fit my screen,with no luck!!(yet)All the best,John.

Yes! Why didn't I think of that. Although I do think my screen rubber is on the way out. Rock hard and shrinking.

Need to stop water getting in the boot next.

Willl check similar to what you suggest above.

My reward for being honest? A couple of folk [not Moggy folk] have suggested I break the glass and call out the emergency repairers. Nah...

Just wondered why you say don't use sealant?

Because they didn't have that originally. If the rubber is a good fit, it shouldn't need any sealant.

That said, concluding, you will need sealant, as the rubbers are horrible and bad fitting things.
