How to date a sidevalve

Post by Onne »

I was told that it is very easy to date the sidevalve, just by looking at the head.
My car has matching numbers, so I know the engine is 1950, but it says 1961 on the head.

The numbers 61919 are stamped in the engine, and are on the copper seal at the side of the engine.

So are there any other ways of checking?

I'd ask it out nicely, maybe sweet talk it with some nice fresh oil...

...oh, not *that* kind of date.
