Okay, got the bit between my teeth this morning and went out to finihs off fitting my new wiring loom to the car.
Its brand new and custom made from Charles Ware, the reason my car came off the road in the first place was because of dodgy wiring.

So, ive got most of it fitted but ive got a few loose ends, excuse the pun! And was wondering if anyone could tell me what they were or why they're not needed.

First up, behind the steering wheel under the dash.

Ive got, 2 read wires feeding back into the loom and connecting thru a double black terminal connector. (seems a bit pointless!)
2 Blue + White, 1 Black, 1 Blue, 1 Blue + red and 2 pink (which are interior lights and a constant 12v feed I think.
Are these extra connections for the dip switch in the floor??

This bits located round behind the speedo.

Ive opted for a started button from a Jag, so have an ignition switch feeding to a starter button. The other wires im sure ive got in the right spot ie the Brown wire and the other white wire. But whats the rather large other White wire for, its not connected to anything.

Ive sourced all of the connections for the back of the speedo unit and fitted them ok but ive the following remaining.

Basically there are 2 green wires that run into a spade connector and I cant see what their for at all. Im guessing that the other connector with the plug (green + brown wire) is for a bulb is for the speedo face light though.

Almost finally is the horn connection.

Ive got the horn switch wire coming out of the loom and this large brown and black wire coming from the indicator stalk loom, im guessing these just push together for the horn circuit though.

Finally. The bulkhead, ive got everything else installed but there are two wires which I cannot find where they go to.

Im guessing they go to the extra wires I found behind the speedo but im not sure, going back to test them. I think the greens might be for the extra two wires behind my speedo and the large white one for the extra wire ive found on my ignition switch...see pics above. But why on earth would they be left loose on a brand new loom, and why would they be put into a loom then not needed?!?!

The loom was made for an early car with flasher type indiacators and a few bits and bobs. I hate wiring and loath electrics....black magic to me. Ive done quite well on my own up untill now, but if anyone could just help me off with these few bits i'd be really thankfull.

If it's custom made then any extra wires will be whatever you asked for. If it's a standard loom then they will correspond to the wiring diagrams in any of the workshop manuals.

From what you describe, plain blue is headlamp feed FROM dash light switch (12v on when headlamps on. This is switched to either blue/red (dip) or blue/white (main). There is a separate short 3 cable loom to fit from the dash area to the floor mounted dip switch. The blue/white wire should also have a thin version going to the high beam warning lamp.

The two red wires with double connector are for side light power and provide a connection point for the instrument lamps (via sliding switch under dash).

Thick white wire provides 12v between fuse box area and ignition switch. Thin green wires are 12 volt supplies between fuse box and fuel gauge & possibly wiper switch. This is all from memory, will need to check diagram to be cetain of this bit.

Black is earth. I've never found pink in a Minor loom, but then as you say, it is a custom job.

PS That's a non-standard fuse box, so be aware that some sonnections will have to be modified slightly. The standard one has only two fuses, yours is a much better idea. Your separate starter switch will also make the wiring slightly different from standard.

Sidelights/ Panel lights. If they all work, ignore the connector bit

Blue/ white is main/ full beam. Blue is, as far as I recall, headlight main feed, blue/ red is dipped beam. So power goes blue into switch, then blue/ red for dipped/ blue/ white for full. Black is earth, not needed by the switch but possibly for something else fitted around that area of the loom. Those pink ones look quite purple to me, which is for stuff that works without the key turned, so yes, interior lights (though why 2? Must be to split off to the other switch or something I suppose).

White for coil, fuel pump, and ignition switched fused circuit feed - Ie white to the fusebox with green (darker) coming out the other side. The ignition switch has brown, 2 whites and a white red I think, the 2 whites go on a terminal that has 2 male parts so they both fit. Best check the wiring diagram for which goes where as the switch terminals are numbered and it does matter!

The green ones will be for the voltage stabiliser (I take it they're a darker green?). Kind of handy to plug them into it if you have one, or your guages won't work!

I have a feeling green/ brown is temerature gauge (from sender).

Yep - For some reason the horn wire out the column doesn't follow the same colour coding as the loom, just to confuse people!

Can't make it out in the pic, but the bit white goes on the same fusebox connection as the other white, the darker green (I think you'll only have dark green anyway, no light greens in the loom) goes the other side on the fusebox to make the connection through. They're all necessary, with the heater, wipers, pump, coil etc all needing them to be hooked up. Though one of the greens might be for an instrument stabiliser that you don't appear to have, or at least that I can't make out in the pics.


So, the cluster of blues is for the dip switch, the greens are for things that work when the ignition is switched on, the whites are what makes it all work. If you have a later car it should have a voltage stabiliser for the fuel and temp (if fitted), and teh greens also go to that, with light green wires coming off and running to the back of the gauges.

I'm doing all this from memory, so there might be the odd error - So double check when fitting just in case!

Ive followed the wiring loom which, as far as I can see is the closest to my loom and car but these bits I just couldn't figure out the last few bits, really almost lost my rag with it all on a few occasions.

Was it you who was after the dip switch harness if I found it?

Casuse I have, but it's in dire danger of being lost again if it's not claimed in the next day or two!
