Bonnet catch

Post by ESAD757 »

Hi

Any idea's

I have recently re assembled the front of my Moggy, but have been unable to get the bonnet catch to work correctly, when i shut the bonnet when i pull the release nothing happens,it's all connected but alas it does not release,so i have to hit the rod that goes into the catch with a hammer to get it to release.Any idea's would be appreciated

How do you manage to hit the rod with a hammer with the bonnet shut ?
Normally the problem is with the rod coming out of the lever mechanism that operates the release catch, does the mechanism work properly with the rod removed and the bonnet open by operating the lever.
Is your rod coming out of the lever because the spring or retaining splitpin is missing ? or is it a different issue.
Cheers

I can hit the rod because i have the radiator and grill off at the moment.

when i pull the lever the mechanism moves but does not pop the bonnet up, the spring is still inplace, i have tried greasing the mechanism but am not sure if i have assembled the mechanism back correctly.

surely when the mechanism is pulled it forcrs the rod from the bonnet out

Thanks

Have you adjusted the spring on the bonnet rod? I had to adjust mine as the rod ended up too short and it would not releae. having wound the rod out from the bonnet, it released the tension on the spring and has worked ok scince.

bonnet catch

With the bonnet open look down into the socket hole on the front panel. You
should be able to see the release plate partially blocking the hole and you
should see it disappear completely to one side when you pull the bonnet
release. If this is working ok then, presumably, the locking pin on the bonnet
is seriously out of line with the hole in to which it slides. If the pin is not bent there is quite a lot of leeway for re-positioning the bonnet if you slacken the hinges.

Thanks Willie

I must have the mechanism around the wrong way, because it starts off partially blocking the hole but when i pull the realease it slide into the holefully blocking it and not away from it.

Will check tommorow
