windscreen wipers - help

Post by kaj »

Can anyone help my wiper's dont work properly (1961 mog). One of the items on the fail list for the MOT is the windscreen was not being cleared enough. When looking at the wipers, they dont seem heavy enough and the rubber blade doesn't sit fully on the windscreen, only the middle section does. I recently bought new blades from ESM for it as the rubbers were none existant. Do I need new arms, the spring in them doesn't seem to good? Has anyone else and the problem - what is the answer?? :-?

wipers

Obviously the spring pressure on the wiper arms should be enough to press
the whole length of the rubber blade against the glass. You will notice that the springs are quite sturdy little devils. I would invest in a new pair of arms although you can bend the arms towards the screen to see if the desired
contact is possible with your new blades before you order them.

I had to shorten both wiper arm springs (cut off the end, then use snipe nose pliers to create a new hook) to get any pressure on the windscreen.

Then I bought a set of Bosch wiper blades - these fit (just) on the blade end of the wiper arm.

These don't quite touch the screen at the last 1/2", but really do clear the screen.

Cheers,

Colin
