Rubber bonnet buffers

I have a "clonking" noise which I'm fairly sure is the bonnet - I have the rubber buffers at the rear and front of the wings, but also, someone seems to have put a second set of front buffers actually on the underside of the bonnet itself, to line up with the ones on the front of the wings. a) is this standard, I can't see any mention in any of the spares catalogues about a second set, b) if not how are they fitted on? (One's missing.....on the side that clonks.......)

No, there are no buffers on the actual bonnet. I have recently found that a mystery clonk from the front was due to the fact that the front buffers(on the
wings) were not actually compressed by the bonnet in the closed position. I
fitted some rubber pads beneath the buffers and the clonk has disappeared!

Maybe they were fitted by a previous owner to remove the clonking, how thick is the remaining one as I wouldnt have thought there was much clearance unless something is out of alignment (what does it look like) and Willie solution is much simpler.

Definitely no pads fitted to bonnet, only to wing area. With the bonnet closed, is there a large gap bewteen radiator top chrome strip & the bonnet? If so then the catch needs adjusting - there's a lock nut behind the badge & then the "pole" surrounded by the spring has a slot to use a screwdriver to adjust it. Do you have to pull the bonnet release to open the bonnet? If no then the catch might be too tight and only the safety catch is holding the bonnet closed.

I hope so as the effect of a bonnet opening when going along is not nice and the damage it can cause..........
