1098 with 12G940 pushrods query

Hi,

I'm currently negotiating for a 12G940 head with rockers and am being offered the 1275cc pushrods as well. For popping one on a 1098cc block with no other major modifications would I need these or are the standard 1098 ones okay?

Thanks

Philip

You must use the shorter 1098 pushrods - the 1275 ones are too long. Rocker gear from a 1275 is needed - or you can (with a bit of patience) re-arrange the rockers on your existing shaft (with washers and a bit of filing) so they sit directly over the 1275 valves. You do know you must sink the exhaust valves into the head by 40 thou - or cut little pockets in the block - and a 1275 head gasket is required ?

Thanks, I've just bought a rebuilt head, rockers and pushrods (if anyone around wiltshire needs some it looks like I've got some I don't need) for £35 and am well chuffed. I'll be sinking the valves rather than pocketting the block. Thanks again for the info.

Philip

p.s. is it just the exhaust valves with the 1098cc block, I remember you saying to rogerrust about the 948cc!

Good buy at that price. Yes - just the exhaust valves. I then 'unpocketed' them by running a grind stone around the outer edge of the new sunken seat - just to minimise the loss of flow - but don't overdo this or the compression ratio will drop. As the springs on these ex valves will now be compressed by 40 thou less than the inlets - put 40 thou (approx) washers under the spring seats on the head to keep them all the same and give you maximium revs before valve bounce.
