"Modern" Oilpumps

Hi I have an option of buying an updated camshaft, however it has the "new" type oilpump connection, can the newer (pin?) type be fitted to a minor? I think the mounting holes may be in a different position.

Yes it can be fitted and has a much better capacity too. Be aware - there are two types (I assume it's the blade drive??) - the long shaft pump is for 1275 engines and the short shaft is for 848/948/998/1098 engines. What cam are you considering ?

Call and speak to simon. The sw5 is apparently a good cam but quite mild. the sw5 is more renowned for being fantastic for injected minis (the sw5i I think). I got his phase II in the end - pulls from 1200rpm but is a bit more 'cammy'. They profile them especially and have a great rep - search for morspeed on minifinity.com forum.
Why dont you just replace the oil pump to suit the cam? You can get a pump for £25. I dont see the point in drilling things for the sake of a few quid!
anyway, check out minifinity for discussions on cam choices - they have a sticky tread devoted to it!

The SW5 is an emissions dodger - for Minis that need to pass the MOT test. No Minor need be concerned about this! The SW5 relies on soft timing and high lift - and does seem to get good reports for providing 'torque'. Similar results from an MG Metro cam (less lift but longer timing - especially on the exhaust) - which is exellent in a 998/1098 engine. Choice of cam is up to you - if you want 'sporty' then the SW5 is not for you. Go for the SW10 - or any 286 timed cam. Be sure to use new followers with a new cam. Don't take a 'spider drive' cam unless you have a 1275 motor - spider pumps are all 'long shaft'. For a 948/1098 you need a short shaft pump. The new pump I fitted with my MG cam came with 5 mounting holes - three of which matched with the original 3 holes for the pump - so no drilling/tapping for me. Unfortunately I have no idea what make it was - and it's now inside the engine. New pumps are only about £15. Some of the holes will be certain to line up - if necessary mark through and drill/tap extra where required.

I had a look at my spare oil pumps - one type has the steel back plate (supposedly high capacity - but I can see no difference to the other one) and it only has two fixing holes - which will bolt straight on to the Minor block - just ignoring the spare hole. The other one - in a Minispares bag - has several fixing holes - and two bolts that hold it together. One of these can be removed and replaced with a through bolt - matching up nicely with the Minor three bolt fixing.
