Lads,
Just a quick question. I might be able to get my hands on a 1300cc marina auto, the auto box won't make a difference will it. Its the engine alone i want.
Will it go in as easy as a 1300cc manual engine.

I know someone who would love that auto box. Maybe the backplates are different btw?
If you want someone for the box, give me a shout!

Gak! Please don't ditch the auto bits, or even better, I'll happily swap for a standard 1275. AFAIK it should be as easy - but the offer's there if not. Please!
Edit - I hope it's me you had in mind, Onne

Well, or me anyway, but we can share it, as long as we swap it every other week

But but but - I've got a 1275 to swap for it - and I've been after one for longer than you!

Engine backplate might be different... I've never looked at an auto before.
Easy enough to swap around though.

I've got a spare auto box out a Dolomite. I think it's the same as the Marina box, only with a different bellhousing, so it might be cheaper to part me from my box and get the other bits from the OP, as I imagine the cost of shipping a box from Ireland would be close to vertical...
I also have other auto Triumph bits if you're mad enough to curse a Minor with such a terrible engine...

Nah - the Morris unit seems easier/more fun. I'd be driving up to Ireland to collect too. Handily, we have the house that 4 or 5 generations of the family have owned on the west coast of Scotland, so I can take a little holiday there too

Fair nuff - Probably not so bad if you're making a road trip of it, compared to paying for a courier to bend, break and generally ruin it
I know Marinas aren't great, but it seems a shame to keep breaking them for engines - There's really very very few left now!

Probably because I owned/scrapped most of them in the 80s...

I owned/scrapped a few to

The only Marina I had that I liked was a 1300 coupe that met a grizzly end embedded in a tree (not by me I hasten to add)

Well to make the proverbial overdrive box for a moggie you need a sort of 50-50mix of parts from both boxes to make it work, and the Marina box is the only one I have seen used if the Dolomite was possible I think it would have been done as its far more common in comparison.

The Dolomite auto box is the BW "whatever model number the small one is", so almost certainly the same box as the Marina auto.
As for overdrive, the single rail Triumph box is the same one as far as I know, but the ratios will be different as is the input shaft and bellhousing.
It's probably far easier to find a Marina box and mangle overdrive onto it than to mess around with all the various changes required to the same box off a Triumph. For auto, the problems are probably similar, if only because you'll still need an A series driveplate (and maybe torque convertor?) and bellhousing, and by the time you've found those you've found an A series engine and auto box no doubt!

back plate is differnent on auto's
but remember the bw35 box in an marina is truly awfull and very very hard to fit in a minor due to the size ( it was the box in the trumph 2000) If you are going to do an auto minor forget the marina and go for an ital auto , with 1275 a+ and bw65 box..
later dolomites with small engines used the bw65 i think.... early ones were bw35
i drove and auto minor with bw65 and it was not great
