AE/Hepolite Pistons

Hi there,
I´ve got a question concerning a piston set, that i´ve just bought. They are Hepolites, Number 16179/V1. The size is 2,542" and were sold to fit a Morris/Austin 1098.
They look kind of strange, with 3 PistonRings at the top and one at the bottom end of the piston. Can anyone tell me, if they fit my Moggy.

Thank you very much,
Bengt

The bore size is correct for 1098 A series engine - standard, not oversize bore. The ring configuration is normal for hepolite aftermarket pistons - attempt to control oil consumption. Unfortunately - increases internal engine friction quite considerably.

MORRIE would be a better term for a Morris Minor.
Anyway - it's just a bit of fun - and it made you all sit up!! And I answered the piston query - which no one else has bothered to do so far!

Moggy vs. Morry??

Thank you very much for your answers.
Last night I did a little more research in the internet and found some companies, which offer Hepolite pistons with the number 16179 (without the additional "V1"). They are sold to fit a 1098 Midget/Sprite with a cr of 8.9:1
So I suggest this will also be the right choice for my Traveller??

Thank you again,
Bengt

Yes - the Sprite 1098 pistons should be fine - unless they are for the very last of the Spridget engines which had bigger main bearings - and used conrods like (but not same as) the Cooper S - with bigger press-fit gudgeon pins.

Well it's not so much as 'can't be bothered' as the question had been replied to!! I can add some more info to keep bm happy though: the Hepolite number quoted seems to refer to a piston with 3 compression rings and 2 oil controls not 1 as mentioned, the V1 on the end might be the difference though. My info also suggests that the piston is not well suited to sustained high revs.

The whole 1098 engine is not suitable for sustained high revs !! It's the longest stroke engine of the whole series.

Well put it another way then, that particular piston appears to be one of the weakest due to its split skirt!!!

I think most 1098 pistons are split skirt. Should be fine - if the gudgeon pin fits.

No only the 16179, anyway lets call it a day!

All my 1098 pistons are 'split skirt' - none are Hepolite (that i know of). Maybe the 16179 is the only Hepolite piston with a split skirt?

I think we may have reached an agreement here, as I was refering to the Hepolite range, one set of which bengt mentioned.
