Spent all weekend moving house, reversing giant vans into the driveway no problem. Finished moving, reversing the moggy into the driveway...



Oh no! I've never scraped a car before, and this is my moggy!

Whats the best way to fix the scrape??

I put vaseline on immediately and smeared it in well, but I'm not sure what I should do next. Do I need to scrape it back, or can I just paint it?

And what about emotional counselling / idiot counselling?

Have the scratches gone right through to bare metal?

I'm sorry to have to be the one to tell you this, there's no choice left but to scrap it..., it's all over for your moggie, she's checking out...

fortunately for you, I am able to take her off your hands for £5 and a plastic goldfish, I know it doesn't replace her, but it's a start....

But seriously, you can buy small pots of touch up paint from ESM (and probably other places too!) in the correct Moggie colours. If the primer is still there, clean off the vaseline with panel wipe, let it dry and touch in the scrapes. If you do this carefully it will only be visible from close up inspection.

Other than that the whole wing will have to be re-sprayed.

Bumpers been shoved in a bit too... although some big washers should sort that.

In your case I'd just use black touch up pen... it won't be that noticeable given the size and position of the scratch.

To do a proper repair would involve sanding down the surrounding area, applying filler, more sanding then spraying.
However, it can be difficult to blend the newly sprayed bit with the existing paint.
You could respray the whole wing but again it may show up a slightly different shade of black unless you know the exact colour of the car.

nice goldfish. makes me feel better about my terrible driving. will put it down to 48 hours of moving house - will remember if i move again to wrap moggy in bubble wrap and fit parking sensors and survey little hidden walls first

After removing the vaseline 1st try giving it bit of a polish with Mer or its equivellent as I have found that it can remove some of the scuff marks or even a liquid chrome polish (do it gently) it just depends how deep its gone and then if it has not gone though to the bare metal you could try one of the colour match polishes and see if that covers it up and dont forget to wear gloves or your hands will be a shade of the polish.
