I've had a look at my "new project" convertible for a few minutes this morning.
The doors don't shut fully so I tried jacking up under the main crossmember which showed how much the structure has collapsed.
In fact looking underneath there is virtually nothing left.
I reckon there is little chance to rebuilding unless I can fabricate a jig to hold front and rear section in the right positions.
I'm not yet classing it as "beyond repair" but it isn't far off.

Has anyone else tackled a convertible with similar serious rot ?

Personally, no. However, when I visited JLH there, Jonathon had one end of the workshop with pieces of a Minor in it.

Ther were aligned from dexion straps (from the ceiling) to give the correct location of the parts, and dexion "longerons" on the floor to get the parts in a straight line.

It looked a bit weird seeing the rear floor pan and the front scuttle (windscrren & Bulkhead) in the correct alignment with just air between them!

Obviously, it needs a spacious workshop, but he's done it....

If the car is physically together, it should be possible to get the body such that the doors open and close (the transmission tunnel should still be there), support on jacks and axle stands, adjust these and also use ratchet straps etc, weld braces in and then replace the floors and sills.

Its possible- and you said you wanted a real project! ;)
