Mk1 Escort Parts

There is a MK 1 Escort in the local scrappies..would the rear axle fit a Moggie to any advantage.. Any other parts worth keeping??

Yep, would handle more power.
JLH Minors is selling recon MK2 escort axles for £600, so it's probably worth getting.
Probably nothing else worth keeping for Moggy owners

I was mistaken, it is a MK2 and not a Mk1 as I first thought...Does the morris prop shaft require to be modified??

Yes, it needs a Ford flange attaching onto the end and it will need shortening slightly, plus balancing.
To be honest, the Moggy gearbox is weaker than the axle, so only change the axle of you are going over about 70BHP, in which case, you would have changed the gearbox already.
Fitting a Ford axle to a standard Moggy is pretty pointless, as it is a lot of work for no gain.

You say the flange needs changing on the prop, why?
I have a escort rear axle in the garage ready for a conversion on my van (one day, when I get round to it) and the standard moggie prop bolts straight on. I agree it does need shortening. Could there be a difference between some escort axle models?

It sounds like the escort axle has had a marina flange fitted (same face as minor) it will fit, but it's not ideal (the splines are a slightly different shape and so do not mate perfectly, but if you are not putting over 100 BHP through it then it will probably be OK.
There are two escort flanges, but I think that both have threaded bolt holes as opposed to the minor & marina which don't.
make sure that you do have it shortened and balanced though.

Oh. Possible I suppose but the axle did come from a complete escort, removed it myself and every thing else was very Escort mk1 about the car. Seems a bit weird that someone would go to the trouble of changing the flange to Marina and then have to change to escort prop to fit the flange when the rest of the car is standard. I didn't buy the prop as my wallet was a bit slim after buying the axle so can't compare it. Its got a 3.9 diff I think, could this make a difference?

If it is the Timpken type (diff goes in towards the rear of the car) then it might have the original small Ford flange, but it seems quite amazing that they would be the same size as the Moggy flange, doesn't it??
Possible though. If it fits, then use it!
You might find that the 3.9 diff makes the gearing a bit tall, but if you are running a standard 1098 then it will make cruising a bit easier.
By the way, Sierra 14" wheels with 185 tyres will go straight on!!

You had me worried as to what I actually had so I did some home work. I have got normal Escort axle but it came from the early 1100cc model which had a single section prop shaft like the moggie rather than the two section prop on the 1300 model. This single section prop bolts on the same as the moggie and by luck happens to be the same size flange. The later escorts have a different size flange and is threaded like you say. Panic over.
The sierra wheel option does sound good.
