What do I need to do to convert my 1098 trav to a spin on oil filter? I've already got the unit from an A series metro. Now what?

I thought the bits only came from a mini, and the kits normally have longer studs to fit the housing in place.

But is it the same as the mini type of filter unit, its no good saying its the same block because so is the Marina and look at the housing on that block.

Same block, same fitting as the Metro.

The large pipe that runs from it to higher up the block might be a different length on the spin on part to the cannister type, but I seem to remember fitting one on an older Mini and having no problems with it - As far as I know you can simply bolt the spin on type on without any other swapovers

The Marina block is very different! Not the same as any other A or A+ block. Metro parts should fit straight on - no 'space' worries on a Minor. But why bother - the original filter is fine.

It is obviously much more convenient with a spin on filter. The only problem I
found with mine was that it was more inclined to leak at the block joint so
make sure all is clean and flat with a good gasket.

Maybe... But also remember certain Metros had a sandwich in the filter assembly for an oil cooler (oil to water, really easy to fit too then just needs a rad with the right plumbing)

I like spin on filters, and would always look to fit one in place of teh cannister type, if only cause they're much nicer to fill with oil when replacing

I must admit that I took the easy way out and fitted a Flexolite adapter. No messing about, just remove the original, bolt up the adapter, and spin on the filter

I'll just stick to the standard filter - no hassles trying to get the spin filter to unspin when it's time to change ! Dunno if there is space for the Metro oil/water exchanger - but it's very doubtful how much oil cooling that thing can actually do anyway. The Mini forums discard it as being useless. The turbo metros had a proper oil cooler.

As said above, it should just bolt on, but then I got both mine from 1970's scrap Minis. Not sure about metro...

You just need to make up a gasket for the mini filter as the minor housing has a larger mating face, although the hole on the Minor block is quite small. With the Mini ones, the oil return pipe bolts straight on.

Never had any problem with the three cars I fitted the Flexolite adapter to (four if you count the Armstrong Siddeley), and if necessary it could always be converted back. The adapter just bolts into the original retaining bolt hole.

Yes that is still the current details for the Flexolite chaps, just spoke to them on that number this afternoon (thanks to Bill, who is probably about ready to push a couple of biros up his nose after an evening spent desperately trying to understand why i couldn't understand how the blimmin thing works

The Flexolite thing is more expensive than the spin-on conversion kits offered by Minor spares specialists, but it sounds easier to fit. Still haven't decided whether to invest in either.
