well, obviously not my own chassis number, but that of my van

all i have, and all there's ever been recorded by DVLA, is a six-digit number, with no letters, just numbers.

There's no chassis plate on the vehicle.

Can anyone help?

if there is no plate in the engine bay I would think thats was it. unless somewhere is a record of your reg + chassis (assuming the reg has never changed) old MOTs perhaps?

thanks for replying, Rob Cunning of you about the old MOT certs, I rushed to my file but alas! they only go back to 95. Yeah it's always had the same reg.

What about the V5C Juliet? That has the chassis number on it ;)

You'd think so, wouldn't you? Alas it has a line called "VIN/Chassis/Frame No" and mine just has this six-digit number

Then surely that's it? LCVs had the number on a big plate inside the passenger door, I think, though sometimes they were on the bulkhead in the engine compartment. Whichever one, they're often removed. I'm hoping that they were stamped in to the bulkhead too, since I've got 2 to get registered

2 of my V5s have just the 6 digits (I only have 3 V5s ). Is it not just a question of adding the A-AUC. or whatever?

Are they not stamped into the bulkhead near the regulator box like the saloons ? often difficult to see because of the paint, maybe Dennis can answer as he has had 100`s of commercials.
Otherwise you could do the DVLC search were you pay a fee £5 I think and they will send you a copy of any history they have.

Seems they live on the passenger door trim... Which is a handy place to have it kicked, rubbed, soaked till it falls off if the weatherstrip fails...

sadly the front door panels had been replaced by 'orrible formed vinyl saloon-type ones so no plate there.

Nothing stamped on bulkhead. (paint's been well and truly off! )

Paid for the DVLA search when i first bought the van - interesting stuff but no chassis number.

well for what it is worth not all lcv`s had the chassis number on the plate on the passenger side, because not all of them had a chassis plate there
but would have been in the engine bay if not on the passenger door.
early lcv`s did not have the chasis plate on the passenger door.

you may be able to identify the van number by the small plate on the top left bulkhead in the engine bay

you can get some idea of numbers from the year as well

it didn't have a small plate in the top left of the engine bay either *sobs*

I am now blushing slightly as it turns out that the number i have is in fact the chassis number.

What i am missing is my VIN, the one with all the letters as well as numbers.

*resumes hissy fit*

On the V5c I do not have... it states my complete chassisnumber, including prefixes FBA 11/

Do not fret, e-mail if need be..............the six figure number is correct if the van is after 1965 which i know it is the chassis plate will (or should be on the passenger door) However they normally vanish. I have some blanks

The numbering system is easy (see my book!!) I know you have a copy, but if yours is an Austin van then it would be AAVC followed by the 6 digits or a Morris van then for the year of yours it would be MAV5 followed by the 6 digits, hope that this helps
