Broken petrol cap key and tapping

Two things:
1. Key to the petrol cap just snapped. Got remainder out of lock. Please does anyone know how I can get it replaced, or something else that might fit? Tank's on empty.

2. Tapping still happening when I accelerate. V little power when in 4th so it might be clutch related after all. Is this likely?

Go to the local local locksmith with the 2 bits of the key, unless there is a number at the top of the key which can be used to get a new key.

If you don't have a spare key - then likely it's a new cap. Need to 'force' the old one off first. Tapping not likely clutch. More likely knackered engine.

You could try putting the two bits of the key into the lock to see if you can turn it - before forcing it off. If that doesn't work then a screwdriver and force usually does the trick :)

Key sorted. Took bits to key cutter and all is well.
Tapping not engine. It doesn't make noise when revved and standing, only when I accelerate. Definately slows down going up hills. Had new clutch fitted approx 9 months ago.

I once had a key break off in a Mini cap. Lovely chrome one is was too :(

I was runnnig on fumes, so had to get some petrol in, so spent 10 minutes with a large hammer and big multifunction lever getting it open.

All while being watched by a panda who did absolutely nothing...

You must have an honest face

Clutch replaced 5 months ago, not nine. Clutch centre reckon it needs adjusting, hence no power up hills.

Did you mean it only makes the noise when the engine is under load and accelerating? Could it be a pinking noise?

Might be worth checking timing as suggested.

Problem is you need long arms - the marks are at the botton and the light gun plugs in up top!

No, the noise doesn't get louder when the engine is revved/under load. It''s more like something is loose and clanging against something else in connection with the pedals rather than the engine. I still haven't been able to locate the source.

Someone not very famous once said:
'play fool fe get wise'.
loosely translated it means: if you want to trip someone smart up, pretend that you are dim.
