Fuel and temp gauge

Hi, my fuel gauge sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, does anybody has any ideas how to find the problem ?
Also my Temp meter doesn't work, can anybody tell me where the gauge is situated on the engine ?

fuel guage - if you short the guage (behind the speedo) straight to + and -, it should move the needle, if not you may have a faulty one.., if it works, it should be connected to the voltage stabalizer behind there to via one wire (green I think). The other wire coming off the guage goes to your tank.., you may have a bad earth from your petrol tank causing it to work and then not.

temp meter - they're about £8 + vat new from esm and they are located on you cylinder head, mines on the left hand side sticking out like a sore thumb. This just goes straight to the guage on the dash. :wink:

The quickest way to check the fuel gauge is to take the connection of the tank sedder and connect it to a good earth if the gauge goes to full you know its ok and the problem is with the tank sender if not then look at the speedo end.
What sort of temp gauge do you have electric or capillary and has it just started to not work recently, about the same time as the fuel gauge, if so it may be the voltage regulator mention as both gauges should be fed from it.

Kevin, I'm just the proud owner of my Minor for three weeks now, Temp gauge never has worked and fuel gauge reacted already as described. If it's electric or capillary I don't know (whatever ´capillary´ means... :P )

Right capillary means that it works by a small tube running from the engine just under the thermostat housing at the front of the engine back to the gauge, if ite electric the sendre in the block will have a spade connector with a wire on it running to the gauge.
