Hiya all, just checked the compression on my sidevalve.Seems to be low. What should I expect to get?By low I mean less than 100.Pistons are a good fit in bore and no smoke from exhaust. All the best,John.

I can't say if 100psi is low or not but the sidevalve is a very low compression engine anyway. I could give mine a test if you like & let you know what I have.
Are all the cylinders around the 100psi mark ?
Have the valves been reseated & adjusted correctly ?

all I know is the compression ratio is 6,6:1 on the sidevalve, and 8,5/9,5:1 on the 1098

My sidevalve has 130psi. It's 0.060" oversize in the bore & the head's been skimmed so that might explain the difference with yours.
