Anyone out there got any knowledge of original distributors?
I would like to know the correct distributor cam for a 1098cc minor,(high compression)the ones that I have looked at have different degrees stamped on the base of the cam plate, what number of degrees should I be looking for?

According to my notes;
Type-25D4, Dwell angle 60/o+ or- 3/o(o=degrees).
Timing
Static--3/o BTDC.
Stobe---6/o BTDC.
High compression serial No.41124 or 41148.
Max. Advance-22/o-26/o 5,500 RPM.
Vac. advance begins 600 RPM......

My BMC workshop manual says that a 1098 HC distributor should have 25D stamped on the top and 40849B stamped on the side.
I looked through my collection of old distributors and found one that was 40849H and one that was 40849E and these both had 16 stamped on the centrifugal advance mechanism.
The range of degrees of advance that I came across in old distributors were: 13 (*2), 16 (*3), 18 (*2) and 19 (*1).
I think that 16 is probably a good bet if this is the sort of number that you are looking for.

Thanks Ivor, but I have all the settings info,and numbers.41148 ties up with the distributor I have.(8cwt van)Out of interest low compression (7.5/1) uses 41025.The 41124 is down as 1098 saloon.
Thanks also newage, your figure will be helpful, I have one as low as 10 but 16 sounds good, although i cant find that distributor number, nearest is 40819 but that has no vacuum advance(cooper S)
