Piston size

Is there any way to tell whether a piston is standard or over-sized without removing it?

presuming you mean in the engine? (not brakes etc...)
there should be a number on top of the piston if it is oversize
e.g. +20 meaning 0.020" oversize

There are numbers on top of the standard piston but not +10 or 20 etc..

May say 'STD' - but just measure the bore - it's the best way!

OK thanks - looks like I have some scraping to do then:

Also, is there any way to tell if I need new rings/rebore without compression testing (silly me took the head off before doing that), as I haven't seen it running so don't know if it smokes. The pistons seem nice and tight in the bores (no movement at all) and there is no scoring evident, but there is a small amount of 'land' at the top (you can just feel a tiny ridge).
