I have had my mog for almost a week now, and have been enjoying that old car smell, driving it around in the sun, getting used to a choke again, and the looks from some pedestrians and other motorists.

Anyway, it has a really annoying squeek comming from the front passenger side suspension I believe.

I will get it up in the air at the weekend and give it a check out, but what do you guys think I should look for, could it be a dry bush / joint somewhere, or worn rubber bushes?

Do you think its saying "please polybush me"?

It's saying - Please Grease Me Up ! If it's still squeeking - spray the top trunnion rubbers with wd40 and see if it goes away. Poly bushing is great - but may lead to other problems. Is it definitely a suspension squeek - and not a brake shoe rubbing on the drum or drum on backplate ?
Also - urgently check the tightness of the bolts holding the front dampers to the cross member - and top up the oil in them - they may be empty ! Does the car ride like a ship in a storm ?

It could be the eye bolt rubbers if its a squeaky sort of creaking sound.

Its definately the suspension squeeking, Well I think so, its not a brake binding sort of squeal its more a tight rubber squeek, if you know what I mean, I'll give it a good once over tonight. Does seem to drive ok though

The rubber suspension bushes quite often develop irritating squeaks. If you
spray the bushes one at a time with WD40 you can usually pin point the culprit. I personally have had no more trouble since changing to the newer
polybushes.

Polybushes are great - but may make the suspension 'harsher' - and can lead to cracks developing in the chassis leg. Mind you - this happens with rubber bushes too !

if it happens to both sorts, surely the crack is caused by something other than the bushes?

The harder the bush - the more likely it is to happen. Maybe happens sooner with poly bushes - but of course there are many different grades - and it all depends on the condition of the rest of the suspension - is it crashing from bump stop to re-bound stop - or is it well damped and smooth! And the condition of the chassis legs too! Next time I have my suspension in bits it will be going poly (my Mini is already full poly) - but for now it's rubber and doing ok.

I would think cracks in the chassis leg (as well as weakening due to inside corrosion) can be due to going over bumps too quickly!

i.e. slow down on bad roads and definitely slow down to go over speed bumps! ;)

Indeed - but the soft rubber bushes help to insulate the chassis from the worst of it.

Unless they give up....should have seen the state of my eyebolt bushes after 18 months.

Cracks in the chassis leg in the area of the Clutch Pedal mounting are quite
common on cars which either have a heavier duty clutch fitted or are driven
in a way which means that the pedal is booted hard frequently.

I hit two speed bumps at brymor because I didn't see them

Yes theres a nasty one at the co-op in heathfield that when its dusk or dark you cannot see. They should paint it yellow or something. I lost a bump stop on that one.
