I'm close to buying a 1959 morris minor 1959 4 door. And I was wondering what other make of engine would fit in with out altering anything? And what would fit in with minor alterations?
The current owner says it's a 1100cc 4 speed, but didn't the 1100cc come in around 1962?
1959 Morrie

It may have had a later 1100 (1098cc) engine fitted.

minor
If it is a 1098 Minor engine then the number will begin 10MA-......(number is
found just under the no.1 spark plug. All Minors are 4 speed. If it does have
a 1098 engine then the matching gearbox will have a ribbed outer casing as
opposed to the earlier smooth type.

Datsun motors fit without too much problem (if you can find them). Different areas of the world seem to have different types of donor motors
Another forum to check out is the Australian forum, Scott visits over here as well, but the Aussie site has lots of info on repowers, including a very nice piece on fitting Datsun motors. http://www.morrisdownunder.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9
At the moment I am looking at a 1600 Mitsubishi Celeste drive train to see if it will fit (why - because we have one
)
Also, if it works OK, why change it. If you start upgrading the motor too much you need to start looking at improving the brakes at the barest minimum.
