Boreing ...

So .. Even though I've not taken the sump off my engine yet I've measured the bores .. after the "Lip" Number 4 bore is 64.62mm front to back and 64.64 mm left to right ..
Assumeing there is no dammage I'l not have to rebore this block will I ?
I was going to fit some new standard rings and be done with it ..

Hello Justin,
I would put new rings in that as long as the ring lands are not worn in the pistons, if they are out of limits you will need new pistons as well. The possible snag with that is that the new rings will be damaged against the lip so it needs removing. Hopefully though you will be OK.

If there is a noticeable lip - the new rings will just bang into it at the top of the stroke. You must remove the lip if you are fitting new rings. The pistons must also be in perfect condition - and since new rings cost almost as much as a new set of pistons - and boring is only about £10 per bore - it may be better to grasp the nettle and get it done properly. however - if you just want a 'runner' - then polish away the lip with fine emery - and 'glaze bust' the bores also with emery (aim for nice 45 degree criss/cross pattern) - and try the new rings !
But first - you need to get it moving!! Is it soaking in diesel now ?
