Cowl repair

Hello,
On my last trip to the UK I have bought a cowl repair panel for my MM. At home I saw that the delivered cowl is in reverse with the cowl mounted on my car. On the photo you can see the difference. I had a discussion about this with the supplier and on the end he say that these panels have to be cut to fit the MM models. A pity, I fought I bought a correct cowl repair panel. Does somebody know where I can buy a cowl repair panel that has the original form? or repair tips? Many thanks.

Unfortunately not.

I am faced with the same problem and got told the same as you.
From the look of your panel the upper section seems OK, could you not make a jig for alignment and cut the bottom section off BELOW the differently shaped radiator 'space'? This would require a bit more welding and finishing but it's certainly an option.

So this supplier has just messed things up, and won't admit it? I need this panel as well.

NO. They don't supply the MM panels. They tell you to buy the standard (late) one and modify it to fit the MM radiator.

Cam has right. The supplier tells me that this panel have to be cut to fit the MM models and he will take the panel back for a refund. At first he thought that the panel of my car has been reversed.
Rather do I hope that a manufacturer makes the panels in reversed.

valid point. I now remeber the later cars have the radiator the wrong way round. Of all people I should know. I have replaced my radiator a dozen times now.

From the look of the photo's, it looks like your cowl panel is sound on the shaped sections, the rust is on the flat sections, so I would just get some sheet steel (~1mm) make templates, cut the rust out of the old cowl and weld in your own repair section (carefully 1cm at a time! to avoid distortion to the flat sections).
You could make a cardboard template for the sheet steel up from the flat bits of the "repair" section, then send back the later panel for a refund and fabricate your own repair section!

Well, first of all, I shouldn't be so utterly clumsy.
first time I replaced my old one, had it recored.
Then I took it out to replace the waterpump
Then I had a wee accident, damaging the rad
Then I had my 1098 recored again.
which I then replaced with a series II radiator
And I made rather a large hole in it when staring the car with the handle
So had that repaired.
Thats'it really.
But it is now my profession!

I thought that you were repairing them, not damaging them?

Well, I have to keep the company running, don't I.
Still very good at damaging them though, so I did today....

Thanks John. Your second idea is good. The condition of bottom including the “dip” is being worse than you can see on the photo. I must make a complete new part.
I have asked the supplier if he can organise that a manufacturer makes one-shot of reverse cowls. It’s only turns the mould
On behalf of the pride Morris Minor, with side valve engine, owners.

I am sure there are more like us Willem! If you do proceed in doing so, please keep everyone updated, that may keep the cost a bit lower.
