My little 4-speaker stereo sounds OK, but I'd love to have some extra bass. I wondered if anybody had fitted a sub-woofer in a Mog, and if so where is it located?

We fitted a 12" sub in the boot of a 4dr saloon some years back now. We built up the boot floor with MDY rings to space the speaker from the fuel tank. A cover was fitted and the whole shelf covered in acoustic carpet. We made two speaker ports which were mounted onto the parcelshelf, made from polished stainless steel and incorporating some high quality tweeters. The system worked very well and gave a much better background bass but with more detail from the ports. Might have some pics somewhere in my puta.

jojax, what head unit and speakers have you got? A lot of modern head units are geared up to put out a lot of bass. Which is annoying when you try and play Stevie Ray through them! Also how big are the 4 speakers? I've heard some 5" speakers that can kick out some bass, theres always 6"x9"'s! Fitting a sub seems a little extreme for a little extra bass, unless you want loads. Please keep us posted on this!

The stereo is a JVC, it cost about £90 or so from Halfrauds. The speakers are 4" Kenwood.
To be honest it sounds OK, just dosen't have that little bit of "kick" that resonates through the car body. I'm not looking for something extreme, just a little improvement. I'd thought about buying one of these carpet-covered boom boxes from my local Carparts 4U.

IMHO 4" speaker are a little small, I have them and find them adequate for my tuneskies, but I do know what you mean about that 'kick'

In a friends Citoreon AX we fitted 2 5" megavox 180watt speakers behind the dash and 2 6"x9"s in the parcel shelf. With an all singing all dancing JVC head unit it certainly kicks out some bass!

You may be able to fit 5" speakers in the door. If you used the hole midway along as opposed to the one at the front of the door. I have heard of 5" speakers being fitted in the resess by the parcel shelf, but some speakers have MASSIVE magnets on them.

in my traveller i have a jvc head unit ,50 wat gravic equliza, in the front door 250 watt 3x 9, in the boot floor are 400 watt 3x9/2x subs max power 600watt, powerd by 500watt amp
i think that is a bit much for what you want but if you get a gravic equaliza that could do the trick as you can trun the power up more than the radio then change the bass to what you want to ,

Its not a problem if you mount it as low as possible. I used this hole because the speaker I mounted in there has such a massive magnet at the back! It doesn't impede the window winder mechanism at all. The other advanntage of this is it makes the speaker less obvious from the outside of the car.

If you do want to fit a sub, i believe JVC now do a headunit that can power a sub without the need for another amp.

I ahve got a stainless exhaust. What else does one need?

All right, I have got a Pioneer DEH P77MP, and 4" speakers hidden on the parcel shelf. I love the retro look of my setup.

Well, I've got a cheap CD player and 2 little speakers in home made plywood boxes lying on the floor/under dash shelf/wherever they happen to be. The last things I want are extra bass or the car vibrating - guess I'm just old, oh, and a fully qualified BBC sound engineer
