This is what can happen to your gearbox crossmember after 40 years use.

The crack occured just above a spotweld which was the only join along the whole length of that diagonal support plate! :o I'd be interested to know if this is the norm or if my car has missed an arc or two.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
