Do you know if its standard.

I've just found a slider switch below the choke under the speedo housing that turns off the instument lights.

I wonder if there are any other features I've not found yet.

What I would like is a dimmer for the indicator green light. Its very bright at night. I seem to remember that on my Austin 1100 it went to half brightness when you turned the lights on, but that was 30 years ago.

It is standard - and one of these days, I'm going to find out WHY it was fitted...

Air raids?
or because the panel lights are so bright?
or to save electricity?
or thought it was a good idea at the time?

Actually I think it goes back to the days of no street lights and poor headlights.

Aha - it must have been a great help not to have been blinded by the panel lights then

I guess if you left your side lights on when parked (I've been told that was comon practice way back when) then it saves a bit of power as the instruments don't really need to be lit up at the same time

Not only common practice, but a legal requirement within a certain distance of a junction, Still is, AFAIK - I was fined for not doing it a few years ago, admittedly because the residents of Princes Risborough didn't want people parking in their lovely street. Must still be in Germany too, judging by the parking lights that VWs come with.

I've just been to a local classic car show.
There was a MK1 austin 100 there. I had a look at the wiring diagram - sure enough there is a series resister that drops the voltage to the indicator green light when you turn the lights on.

That's jolly clever and would stop me dazzling passengers after dark... although it is a general point of hilarity that the whole of the interior flashes green when I indicate...

The original cover on my car is Amber with a metal piece that flips over the cover.
This directs the light away from the driver towards the dash & floor.
The light does not get in the drivers eyes.
When i flip it the other way my friends say it looks like a yellow man inside the car.
I am not sure what year these were supplied on the Morris.
I know mine is the kind with the horn & turn indicators on the stock.
The 56-58 had the indicator light on the speedometer and the stock.
So there was many variations though the production years for the Minor.

My '58 has just the flashing base on the indicator stalk..

Can you not put a smaller wattage buld in there?
