EARLY/LATE BRAKE ADJUSTERS

Post by Willie »

The front brake adjusters on the 7" and 8" drums are different! If you have
an early car which has been uprated from 7" to 8" front brakes then check
that the later adjusters have also been fitted. These will give you an extra
5 or 6 clicks of adjustment which explains why you run out of adjustment
before the shoes are actually worn out if you have the wrong adjusters fitted.
The 8" type is 10mm diameter across the screwdriver slot, the 7" type is only
7.5mm diameter.

Nice one Willie - it's news to me. I got a spare set from ESM a few years ago and I wondered why they asked me the exact model my car was!

That explains something. So that is why I can't fully adjust my fronts

adjusters

Post by Willie »

Yes ONNE a lot of people, including myself, will benefit from this knowledge.
It is fourteen years since I uprated to 8" fronts early in my rebuild, all that
time with the wrong adjusters!!
