Hello all, I need to post this cylinder head but have to find out the cost first so I need to know the rough weight. Anyone got any bright ideas?

Stand on a set of bathroom scales holding the head and then not holding the head to get the difference. Not 100% accurate, but perhaps close enough.

The reason I said about weigh it at the same time as yourself is that certain scales (especially cheap ones) are quite non-linear and don't give very accurate readings at the lower and upper end of their weight ranges. Weighing the head with yourself should put the weight in the middle of the range and so be more accurate. :D

 - yeah, not much use for me though - it'd be too close to the upper end? ;-)

True, i did a science project on it years ago :(

I'll weigh one for you tomorrow, since I've got one handily lying on the floor behind me :D

hello mate, thanks: I don't have any bathroom scales - dont see the point in them as I know when I'm getting fat by looking in the mirror :D

Parcelforce, AFAIK :D 'Fraid I couldn't be bothered going to fetch a 940 - a naked (no valves or rocker gear) 295 is just over 10 kg though...

Right. 10st 10 without, and 13st 0 with, so I make that 18 pounds difference which should be 8.2 kg. That's for a 12g940 with valves, springs & thermostat housing, but no rocker gear or pushrods.

a 295 is over 10 kg?? Hang on...

I get the 295 to be 7 pounds LIGHTER than the 940! :o

I just put it on the scale, so that'll be the linear measurement thing we were talking about :D Oh, and a decidedly single minded set of scales...

Well, my bathroom scales are not 'expensive' but not £9.99 either, so I would say they are 'roughly right' but I'd welcome corrections from anyone with a known accurate scale. My kitchen scales only go up to 5kg so I can't really use those. :(

What type of scale were you using, BigG?

Just a common or garden bathroom one, but it's told me lies in the past.

Have you tried the head + you method of weighing? That at least should be a bit more accurate even if the scale has gone off calibration.

Could do - but to be honest, I'm not sure I care that much :D Maybe later...

Well, it would be interesting to compare results, but I don't want to keep you from the wonderful world of LCVs!
