Hi - I looked at a Traveller for sale today which I'm interested in but needs to have the nearside wheelarch wood (sections G + H according to Traveller Timbers pics
http://www.travellertimbers.co.uk/pages/tt003.html ) replaced along with the rear doors.

The rest of the car is pretty solid.

Can anyone tell me how big a DIY job it is to remove the existing timber and replace with new, eg how much of the car needs to be taken part?.
Is it a job that a "competent" DIYer could do?, what are the likely pitfalls? etc
Ive trawled through all the previous posts relating to Traveller woodwork but none appear to deal with this issue.

If you are good at woodwork then replacing the two sections should not be too difficult.

The hardest part is taking off the back wing and putting it back again.

Mike, the worry here is that if the wooden wheel arches are rotten, then the metal work behind the wood is likely to be rotten as well. And when you take it all apart you may find that other sections of wood may need replacing.

You may end up replacing the whole side and doing some welding too!

Could still be worth it if the Traveller is very cheap.

Chickenjohn - if youre right ref whole side (poss bothsides?)needing replacement, and youre point ref being worth it depending if its very cheap - how much is "very cheap"?.

replacing the wood will cost at least £1000 (DIY) and a few weeks/months of your life. The welding - anything from a few hours to a lifetime depending what is needed, how good you ar at welding and how much time you can afford per week to work on it.

As for 'very cheap' - it's all relative, but a half decvent traveller will start around £1500 to £2000 so if you subtract the cost of the parts and time, then you can probably make your own estimate.

Thanks again for the replies - I spoke to Steve Foreman at Woodies (what a nice helpful bloke!!) who thinks it is repairable as opposed to needing replacement. Ive therefor taken the plunge and have bought it. The work will be done over a long period as I have 2 young daughters and very little spare time.
It's good to be back in Morris ownership again.
