I am contemplating replacing my headlining with either a new one, or one from a scrappy (it has a number of tears in it). I have seen one is a scrap yard (no tears etc) but how easy is it going to be to remove without damaging it and then fit to my car? I believe the replacement one are not as original?

Can I replace it with the rear screen in position? Is it easier to do the job with the rear screen out of the car?

I don't like your chances of re-using an old headlining. Depending on how old the original one is (it's going to be at least 25 years old anyway), it might be very fragile.

The rear screen will almost certainly need to come out, especially if you have an early 1000 (pre 61/62) as the headlining is glued around the rear window aperture.
Later cars used a cable secured with hooks under the window rubber which would be best done with the window out anyway - I haven't tried it with the window in place.
