Larger rear brakes.

Due to failing MOT on rear oil seals I have just been given the shove I neede to fit some Wolseley rear brakes.
Brilliant is all I can say. Before anyone starts talking about obsolete parts and there availability. It uses Minor rear cylinders,front drums and front shoes. Only real obsolete part is backplate and how oft do they rust through.

Well done! I have been looking for a set of these back-plates for ages. If you hear of any more of these - keep me in mind!.
Just a thought - do you think it would it be possible to use 8" front brake backplates - with the hole enlarged to take the rear type cylinder ?

Possibly Roy I willhave a look at the 7" Iv'e removed and compare it to the front ones I removed when I fitted the Riley fronts.
Onne, he would weld in a plate to fill the hole ,of course.

You'd have to use something! Otherwise the shoes wouldn't have anything to seat against. The 'dead' end of the shoes will have to be exactly the right size otherwise you'll not get the shoes to adjust up properly (or won't be able to get the drum on)

I have looked at this already - compared 7" rears and 8" fronts. I think I would need to cut the centres out the 7" rears - and weld them into the 8" fronts. Extra holes would be plated up of course - and the shoe support would need to be re-positioned. Even for 'Gung-Ho' me - this seems more work than will be worthwhile !! My standard handbrake locks the wheels - so I think it will do.
