I was doing a wee rally today. On the way back I though "why not test the top speed?" So I did. a whopping 74 mph! Which I find really weird!
Last time I tested her, she ran on 4 star (Supr unleaded + additive)
Since I am unemployed at the moment, I now use ordinary common petrol, since that is sixpence cheaper
Why on earth would she go faster on "weaker" petrol?
Only thing I have changed is the ignition, she is now electronically ignited.
Same stretch of road. 74mph tested on satnav

Maybe conditions were favourable? Wind from the rearwind? Slight downhill? Does electronic ignition not give a few extra horses?

Could be! but it's almost 10 miles extra compared to last time, and she is also more keen te rev.
I can now do 50 in third (still not very pleasant though!)

maybe its just in a generally better tune, was it cold? My car always performs better on crisp mornings, air density and all that

it was a sunny afternoon (about 15°C)
I did do my carb as well, and set the valves, good oil etc. Ow before I forget, last time I had the lights on!

more keen te rev.
Yikes, Onne has turned into a Scotsman!
Seriously though if the car is set to run on normal petrol then super and additive will only upset the balance and result in less than ideal mixture.
And There ws a very strong southerly wind in blighty today. Which way were you travelling on your land speed attempt?

Well, eastwards. What about the scottish accent? I am no wee Scot!
Oh and I did speed! There was a 62mph speed limit there.
Brixton, yes in my Splitscreen (and not with the original engine!)

Sounds like your car is in a good state of tune and run flat out. Is it a 1098?? They should be able to do 75mph if all is well.
I think your car is sane and its the rest of the world that is mad! ;)

Sounds like you might have answered your own question
Hey Onne, I replaced my fuel pump for a facet fast road solid state one (Thanks to Cam's advise) this weekend. Test drove and managed 98mph

. Of course this was on a private road

John, I have got a LCV diff, so 74 is quite well for that
