So pod's left indicator didn't work .. Flibbled it up and down a few times and it worked again ..

Is there any danger in spraying inhibisol into the switch ?

I've no idea what inhibisol is but the switch mechanism is fairly straigthfoward in operation. Just get the steering wheel and shroud off and have a look. You'll soon see how it all works - and, no doubt, that it has collected a load of dust and muck and caused the malfunction.

If it's like wd 40 should be ok. Try pulling a piece of fine wet/dry through the contacts.

A can of contact cleaner might be worth a try for cleaning the contacts...

Or if your arm is long enough drive with the passenger window open and pop your hand out to give a signal

Why? There's a perfectly good hand signal for turning left - or don't they teach them any more, just how NOT to slow down using anything except brakes?

Nope! I don't think hand signals have been taught or been part of the driving test for some years now. I certainly never learned them.

But but but - I only passed my test 25 years ago! I remember when it was all fields etc etc Stick your right hand out of the window and draw imaginary circles at right angles to the ground in the air, if you care :D

I had to learn them and I took my test around 14 years ago. I would be more worried about the modern drivers not having a clue what they meant. :o

Hmm... this BBC page says (about half-way down) that they were withdrawn from the test in 1975.

It's wrong then. They were definitely in it in 1981 - or at least questions about them were :D

I think that from 1975 you did not have to demonstrate that you could DO them .. certainly when i took my test (1988) you have to know what they meant ..

i had to do hand signals as well, allways managed to punch the cyclist overtaking me though when turning right, so was glad when i used electric indicators

They can't have been taken out in 1975 because my mum said about learning them (and they came up in her test) she took her test in about 1991/2 not sure which

I think ADI's are supposed to explain them to learners but I don't think they are tested, unless they come up on the theory. Its 14 months or so since I did mine so I can't remember if they were in the questions.
