Door handle removal (again)

Having got the glass out of the door I'm trying to get the door handle out of the door on my '71 van.
I'm wanting to replace the return springs.
My handle assembly doesn't look like the one on page 157 of my Haynes manual...I'm guessing it's a later type. Mine looks like the one top right of plate 99 in the Morris Minor Centres parts catalogue.
Anyway, I can't seperate the actual lever from the rest of the handle assembly. theres no retaining clip holding the pin in place. The bottom end of the pin has been beaten over like a rivet. Is this a bodge that's been done at some point? should the pin be removable?
There doesn't seem any way to get the assembly out. any advice gratefully received.

Yes but I'm going to have to grind the end off. I'd like to know if there should there be some sort of retaining clip/circlip on the end of the pin
