Windscreen Wipers

Dear Members
I recently had the wiring loom on my 1961 Old English White Morris Convertible replaced.
The windscreen wipers are working, but always return to the 'up' - vertical poistion, whereas previously they returned to the base of the screen - horizontal. I did not notice until it started raining!
Does anyone out there technicaally or mechanically minded know why this might be happening?
Any thoughts / comments would be appreciated.
Regards

Dear Joe,
The parking position of the wipers is determined by a device within the wiper motor itself.
To alter the parking position, loosen (no need to remove) the 4 cross-head screws on the wiper motor cover (that's the one with the wire attached).
Turn the cover through 180 degrees re-tighten the scews and check the position.
You may need a couple of goes to get the wipers parking just right.
It also helps if you can mark a line of the cover before starting the adjustment. Maybe the people who replaced the loom had to remover the cover to renew the connection.

Personally I would remove the wiper arms as well, if you get the positioning wrong the wipers may try and push their way through the bodywork! Could cause some stress to the mechanism. As ColinP says mark everything you can before altering anything.

The movement of the wiper arms is limited by the mechanics not the electrics, so you'll not be able to rotate them into the bodywork unless they were doing that already - or you have removed them since they were last used and put them back wrongly.
Inside the round cap there is an electrical pick-up which is circular and has a 'missing section'. The wipers keep running when the contact is sitting on the pick up and will only stop when the contact is on the 'missing' part.
Rotating the cap as described above will move the position of the missing part and therefore will alter the position at which the wipers stop.

It is possible to get the wipers to wipe the bonnet instead of the screen. Mine did!
In fairness, I had marked the spindles, removed the rack, rotated the spindles by 180 degrees, regreased the rack (messy!) rotated it by 180 degrees, re-inserted the rack, put the cover on. Then found out I was wiping the bonnet.....
At least it cured a lot of the backlash in the system..
