window removal

Post by chilly »

I'm trying to remove the window glass to get access to the clip to remove the door handle. I've got the window frame out with a bit of a tussle.
It's obvious that the rail that the glass sits in isn't going to pass through the slot in the top of the door, sooo... any tips on separating the glass from the rail it sits in? I've had a bit of a go but they look fairly well stuck together to me.
In the haynes manual it makes out that you disconect the window raising arm and just lift it out! Should the glass just be a push fit into the rail?
As I said any tips/ideas very welcome.
Oh, it's a van by the way if that makes any difference.
Cheers

SR...
that's not the problem. I've got the raiser bar off the glass channel, I'm struggling to seperate the glass out of the channel to allow removal of glass out through slot on top of door. Slot too narrow to allow passage of glass whilst sat in the channel.
Hope that's clearer

yes it is all abit tight, there is no need to take the glass out of the channel, you tilt the glass and it should all come out

Don't you also have to remove the draught/ weather strips to get the metal channel out easily?

Or is that just if the metal bits have gotten so rusty the strip is three times the usual size...?

Yes you have to take out the window strips, but be careful not to scratch the glass
