old contact adhesive removal

Post by chilly »

Has anyone any tips on the removal of contact adhesive. At some point someones stuck foam on the roof of my van. it's too old to peel off (it snaps rather that peels) and most of it is a very thin film.
I've tried a few solvents: petrol, thiners to no avail.
Thought of having it sand blasted but the blaster is worried it might warp the metal. Has anyone any experience of sand blasting the inside of a van?

Thanks in anticipation

I think blasting may very well warp the metal. How about judicious use of a hot air gun - the paint stripper type ? Or maybe just chemical paint stripper (often contains methylene chloride) - but make sure it doesn't drip in your eyes! And make sure you have plenty of ventilation.
