The serving of beer is, in my limited experience, is dependant on what type of beer it is and what time of year. An ice cold cider or larger is 'well lush' in the summer. But less so a real ale, which for me is a winter pint.
During the summer one of my faves is a sommerset cider or perry, served in the county of Dorset!
Although, I did have a very nice ice cool guinness last night.
I think we are very fortunate that here in the U.K that we have a lot of choice.

I always thought it was 4 degree's coz that's when water is at its max density.
And I have tried quite a few , and specky hens about the only one that Ive ever enjoyed cold out the bottle

do you know that Old Speckled Hen has a car association? It used to be brewed by Moralnd (taken over by Greene King), an Abingdon brewery . It was actually named after a car that belonged to the MG works which was nicknamed 'Owd speckled un' because of paint splashes. The beer was a commemoration beer and renamed Old Speckled Hen for general sale.

Old Peculiar, pulled from the wood, in Yorkshire served at room temperature. I am surprised OP has not been mentioned as it must surely be the top ale of all time.

Am I the only person on this planet who drinks Guinness and cider? Why do bar staff insist on pouring the cider first so that the Guinness sits on top and froths over? I have even been refused it in some pubs[frame][/frame]

I drink Guinness Mike, but never tried it mixed with cider.

One of my old regulars used to drink Guinness and cider mix. We always poured half a cider into a pint glass then poured it into another glass and back a few times to flatten it a touch, then the Guinness would mix in nicely with no heavy frothing over.

I mentioned OP right near the begining of the thread. Sadly I can only get it from tesco in bottle form now. Still good, but not the same as out of the cask during my days touring the Yorkshire dales around Aysgarth and Hawes. In Suffolk we have some great large breweries - Greene King and Adnams, and loads of micro-breweries based in the back of pubs doing their own thing. It's a good place for real ale enthusiasts. I've been thinking about writing a book on a tour of Suffolk's micro breweries - by bicycle and train of course - not sure it would be best to attempt it in the Minor for obvious reasons!

This also comes in a limited edition bottle at the moment to celebrate 50 years of the MGB. Wonder if Spitfire ale will come in a special bottle to comemorate 50 years of its Triumph namesake next year?

Old peculiar is what we call my mother in law ,so thats enough to put me off that one, her names Julia

more trivia for you, there is no 'A' in Theakston's beer, it's spelt with an 'E', i.e. Old Peculier.
