after nearly 2 hours on the phone!i have finally found out what is happening regarding my axle, the delivery company didnt even pick the axle up as the driver said it was too heavy for him to pick up so he left it at the collection point and scanned the wrong bar code, so then it was thought to be in medway and when i rang they had no recolection of it (which is why it was 'lost'), i have now got my money back and have booked another delivery company to pick it up, DONT GO NEAR PARCELFORCE!!! complete mess about

so the axle should be here sometime next week, which means i can finally get some work done

I've heard bad things about several delivery companies, especially Parcelforce. Last year I ordered a pair of brake discs and numerous other heavy parts, and it arrived a day late because the driver claimed he couldn't find my house. When it did eventually arrive the next day, the driver slammed down a large tatty sheet of cardboard which was once a cardboard box with my car parts lying on top, and with no explanantion just said "sign here" and he was off. You should have used DHL or UPS, both have good reputations and I've never had a problem with them.

been working for four hours on this axle today and i havnt even got the diff off or the halfshafts out
neither half shafts or diff will move even though all the bolts have been taken off, I WILL FIX IT

major problem, halfshafts STILL stuck!!! my next tactic is putting an old wheel on backwards and cracking it with a sledge hammer, apparently this is a good way of removing stuck halfshafts, but is it good enough to get these suckers out???

ok i have 2 mechanics look at it and a few friends from work look at it and were all stumped... i think i am going to have to buy another axle no one knows why the halfshafts wont come out, the guys on passion ford and old skool ford forums dont know whats up with it either, :(

they must come out some way. have you tried a slide hammer, hub puller ect..

yeah i have tried a slide hammer.
last night i bought a sledge hammer, so im going to put an old wheel on the hub and literally leather the crap out of it, if not i have another idea, using a wedge between the hub and casing and hammer it which should pull the 2 away from eachother,
fingers crossed that one of these methods will work

What pitch are your wheels.If they are not Ford then this is a good time to start again.

Have you taken the diff off so you can see the other ends of the half shafts?
All a brute force attack on the outer ends is going to do is cause damage if it turns out the half shafts have been welded in or something.

no, half shafts had to come out first becuase they go directly in to diff meaning diff wouldnt come out,

HOWEVER
the sledge hammer and old wheel trick worked absolutly perfectly!!!
so halfshafts, diff and brakes are out/off [frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]mMMMm all that mucky oil...[frame][/frame]

The reason why it was stuck was the bearings on half hafts, If they were that hard to get out... how hard are they going to be to put back in when the time comes??? not looking forward to that!!!

ok got a few new parts ordered,
escort fitting kit,
radius arm kit,
diff gasket
complete axle bolt set,
handbrake bush (Polyurethane) ,
bump stops (Polyurethane),

so will get on with grinding old leafspring mounts off as they are about 2 inch wide, weld on new mounts and radius arm mounts,

current work: taken diff out, taken everything out of diff cleaned up with degreaser will sand and repaint diff casing whilst everything is out,
also sanded the brake plates and then repainted in red lead and then anti stonechip paint,

will post some pictures soonish

only a small update to any followers

I would only grind off 1 axle perch at a time,this way you can sight through to the other one and keep everything in line.

slightly unsure where im supposed to weld the new mount though, obviously it has to be in an exact place or else pedro will be crabbing everywhere

use you old moggy axle for the distance between the springs.The rest is just Maths

been playing about with my brakes, and now i have one completed,

Brake back plate was left overnight in vinegar to kill of the rust, the rust then turned black and i then knocked it off with a wire brush which left me to near enough bare metal, then a few coats of red lead primer and then a few coates of hammerite/waxoyl anti stone chip paint.[frame][/frame]finished brake, new cylinders, shoes and fitting kit, i would have bought a new handbrake arm but couldnt source the part.[frame][/frame]on this side i have a problem of not being able to find the rubber that stops water and muck from the road getting in, that goes over the handbrake arm, if anyone knows where i can get them please tell me.[frame][/frame]old vs new[frame][/frame]
